Kennedy Nolan looked to an architectural expression which would provide an armature and expression of family life in this extensive renovation of a heritage residence, lead by the Client’s brief which was pragmatic and reflected the large, close family’s values, preferences and quirks.
Specifically, we resolved to do this by a plan to accommodate the family over time, resolving the changing requirements of privacy and independence. We also sought to amplify the sense of place so that the shared experiences of the family and visitors gather depth and texture. This project is a true collaboration, a result of the intelligence and enthusiasm of the Client, Builders and garden designer.
Decisions about the scope and quality were ultimately made by a Client principally concerned with the concept of value – in terms of the role of architecture in supporting life and making something beautiful and long lasting.
